What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is the use of highly concentrated, medicinally powerful essential oils in promoting a healthy body, mind & spirit. Essential oils are extracted from plants and trees through various distillation methods. Each oil contains over 100 different biochemical components that assist our bodies in triggering important biochemical reactions that promote health. Essential oils provide ammunition to the immune system to defend against foreign invaders such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi, and they provide building materials for new cells and help repair damaged cells. The term "Aromatherapy" was coined by French chemist Rene-Maurice Gattefosse in the early 1900's. Recommend reading: "Gattefosse's Aromatherapy: The First Book on Aromatherapy"
What are the medicinal benefits of oils?
The oils promote natural healing in the body by providing micro-nutrients such as oxygen, vitamins, minerals, trace elements such as terpenes, eugenols, ketones, etc., that supply healing and building elements for cells. The oils affect your body from the limbic system of the brain right down to the cellular level, placing into effect millions of bio-chemical reactions which support the immune system, defend against viruses, bacteria and fungi, build new cells, repair skin and muscle tissues, not to mention – you can disinfect your home with them.
How do I use Aromatherapy?
There are a myriad of simple ways to use the oils. A drop of Lavender or "Healing Blend" will stop the pain and itch of cuts, burns, insect and pet bites & scratches and stop secondary infections due to the oils anti-bacterial and anti-viral affects.
Essential Oil prices vary – why?
Many oils represented as "Essential Oils" are cut with synthetic chemicals to sell them cheaper to the public and garner more profits by volume. When synthetic chemicals are added to create 20 liters out of 1 liter of pure oil, it significantly, if not completely, nullifies the medicinal effectiveness of the oil and can prove harmful. For instance, pure Lavender oil should cost in the range of $15 for a half ounce. If you're paying $5-$10 for a half ounce of so-called pure Lavender you're most likely buying synthetically cut oil. Currently, there are no labeling requirements to alert the consumer as to whether an oil has been cut with synthetics. The Bodywork Therapies brand uses only high quality pure oils, so our clients receive the full therapeutic effects of nature's "medicines of the ages."
Also, oils are extracted by various means which effects cost, plus the cost of plant material varies, i.e. roses cost more and yield less than say – eucalyptus which costs far less to produce.
Why should we eat Organic Raw Foods?
They're alive and packed with "real" healthy nutrients our bodies can use in its continual regeneration. Organic raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds are crucial in maintaining a healthy state of being. Live organic food makes live healthy bodies. The old adage "You are what you eat" says it all – we are made of everything that goes in, and on, our bodies. It is highly recommended that at least half of your plate consist of raw organic foods.
